I'm Back (some more)
(I tried looking for a good picture in my phone and they are all pictures MH took of herself. So basically this times five hundred.)
I'm back. Yep. Back. So. Huh.
I spent a few months away and there were so many times when I would think of something (that I thought was) clever and be like, "Wow, I should blog about that!" But because I would be sitting on the couch with one boob out, holding a squirming infant on my lap, while a two year old climbed on my back yelling, "Mama! I'm helping you feed Charlie!", I would make a "mental note" to "remember" this later. These two terms are in quotations because it is obviously a hilarious thing that I could remember anything. I can't tell you how many times I misplaced my phone when IT WAS JUST HERE A SECOND AGO and then found it in some crazy place like the sock drawer. And I can't blame it on MH because if she has my phone, she's using it, trying to buy the full version of the crappy free kid apps I download because I'm a cheapskate and can never figure out how to add money to my itunes or whatever you need to do in order to buy apps.
Or she's taking a million pictures of herself. CLICKCLICKCLICKCLICKCLICK. So it's a hundred of the same thing.
Hey, what do you know? I brought this shit full circle.

Howdy!
Wow. Yeah. That was crazy.
So in case you were wondering, my maternity leave is over. Since June 27, I've
- given birth (without an epidural)
- packed up my entire house and hauled it away in a station wagon
- potty trained my two year old
- lived with an infant, a two year old, four dogs, and my mother AND survived
- sold my house to the most finicky buyers in the whole universe
- convinced a bank to give us a new mortgage (and we were still convincing them at our THREE HOUR closing! sheesh!)
- moved
But then I realized, "Oh wait a minute. I don't care." And suddenly all the stuff I should be doing faded into the background and I was screwing around on Facebook.
There we go. Things almost feel normal again.

And if having a baby and selling our house wasn't enough, I've decided to start potty training MH. Can't wait till this maternity leave is over so I can relax!

Back!
Anyway, Charlie is here and we're all healthy and doing well. The biggest issue has been trying to figure out what the hell I'm supposed to do with the first kid while dealing with the second. Let's just say we've been watching a ton of TV. If I have to watch one more episode of Calliou, I'm going to run into the woods and scream.

Still Here
I'm still here.
No, I mean, I'm still HERE:
Yep. Really Really REALLY reallyreallyreally pregnant. That Super Moon did nothing for me. Super Moon? More like Stupid Moon!
Yes, I know, that was terrible, but do you really expect me to be witty in my condition and on a Monday morning no less?
Anyway, here's hoping the next post is all about my new baby and his stats!

The Laziest House Tour in the History of the World
So as of five seconds ago, we decided to try to sell our house and move. Because it's not like I'm not 100 months pregnant or anything. (But as anybody with small children knows, there is never a good time to do anything because you will always be this poor and this tired.) Anyway, we're still doing stuff to prep the house for sale like replacing a few windows and packing up the majority of our belongings so it appears that we are in fact organized people. So I don't have any fancy pictures of my house yet. Our plan is to try to get it up on the market by mid-July. (Of course, I would love to avoid this because I am 100 months pregnant, so if you want to buy my house right now, you should do it!)
Still, some people have been asking me for some more stats and pics. So I did the laziest thing in the whole universe and I looked for pictures I already have to give you the cheapest house tour ever. Enjoy!
Our house is a 2 bedroom, 1 bath shotgun in the Original Highlands. When you open the front door, you're in the living room.
What you can't see: two big windows, wooden blinds, fire place, etc. (You know, all the stuff you care about.)
Here's the other side of the fire place. Those shelves will stay (and will look awesome once I vignette the heck outta of them.) We painted so the walls are a nice silvery color now and not that obnoxious yellow.
Like I said, it's a two bedroom shotgun, but it has a hallway so both bedrooms are private. Just to orient yourself, we're now looking down the hall towards the front door. (See the one window in the living room? I told you!) MH's room is on the right. Those are some billy book shelves that are anchored to the wall and will stay.
Now we're in what I call the "bathroom lobby," right after the hallway. That's the bathroom door on the left. Behind that is the door to our bedroom and off of our bedroom is a huge laundry room. Straight ahead is our kitchen which we built completely from scratch a few years ago. Note how thin Desmond is, placing this picture sometime in 2010.
Another kitchen shot. This is when MH was an infant and Jonathan is sponge bathing her on the kitchen table. Already Harper can sense that he has been exiled from our affections. What you probably care about: there's a huge window, ample room for table and chairs, tons of cabinet and counter space, and appliances to remain.
And this is the room off the kitchen (which actually was the kitchen when we moved in.) Both this room and the laundry room were originally the back porch and refinished by drunk people sometime in the 1960s. We took both rooms down to the studs, reinforced everything structurally, put in all new wiring and sheet rock, etc. This is now the dog's room, but could be used for an office, a small dining room, or a kick ass mud room. It has a ton of windows and leads to the backyard (which I can't find any pictures of, but is totally fenced with new privacy fences and has a new shed.) There's also a cellar that has outdoor access, Wizard of Oz style.
So what isn't pictured: either bedroom or the laundry room. The laundry room makes sense because why would I ever take pictures of that? (Just so you know, it's about the same size as the dog room and has the same pergo flooring.)
But it's kind of sorry that I have no pictures of my kid's bedroom. It's really cute. It has built in shelves with glass doors original to the house and a huge built in shelf/closet deal that Jonathan did right before she was born. There is a TON of storage in there. It also has a window, which is unusual for an enclosed bedroom in a shotgun house.
Both bedrooms have the same pine floor that's in the rest of the house (which is original and I hear kind of rare if you care about that kind of stuff). Oh, and our bedroom has a fireplace mantle just like the one (you couldn't see) in the living room.
Anyway, I have to go because Apartment Therapy keeps bugging the shit out of me about doing a house tour. Okay, okay, I'm coming! Keep Calm and Carry on, will ya? (Hipsters can be so impatient.)

For Sale
(Our house, circa Fall 2011--except for pumpkins and mums, it looks exactly the same.)
I'm due to have a baby pretty much at any time in the next month. So you know what we were thinking would be a really good idea? LET'S TRY TO SELL OUR HOUSE LIKE RIGHT NOW. Because it's not like we're busy or anything.
We almost put our house up for sale a few years ago, but then we chickened out. As much as I've bitched about our house, it's the devil we know. We've spent years fixing it up and it's finally finished. It's in a great neighborhood. And moving is such a pain in the ass. So we decided to stay.
But now we're about to have our second kid, and I think reality is starting to sink in. Two people, two kids, two dogs. I've given away most of my books and almost all of my clothes and the walls are still closing in. (How does a baby who doesn't really even exist yet have so much shit?) Sure, my dad was born in a mud hut in Syria that had no plumbing. Even when they upgraded to a small house in Lebanon, it was two rooms and a chemical toilet for 11 people. Americans are wasteful and houses are now huge and most families in the world sleep in one bed and those are the lucky ones who have a bed, etc. Whatever. My dad was one of those people who never had a bed, and now he lives in a mansion with six bathrooms. All I want is three bedrooms so my two year old/infant won't continually wake each other up in the downward spiral of exhaustion that will inevitably be my life.
Anyway, everybody seems to assume that we are hightailing it to the suburbs, but that's not true. We're going to try our best to stay in this neighborhood because we love it. And honestly, if our current house had another bedroom and a garage, we'd probably stay indefinitely. But it just seems like it's time to move on.
So if you or anybody you know is interested in an awesome shotgun house in the Highlands priced crazy right, let me know. We're aiming to get the thing listed by mid-July, but would love it if we could sell it before that (obvs).
